Off-white founder Virgil Abloh’s is set to launch his first collection with Louis Vuitton this spring/summer 2019. Abloh became the new artistic director of the Louis Vuitton Menswear in March last year replacing the British designer Kim Jones.
Abloh plays with Vuitton’s craftsmanship, signature shape and classic monograms while taking inspiration from the Wizard of Oz’s 80th anniversary and light prisms. Stand out elements include chain details, monogrammed PVC and neon details.
The collection pays tribute to Abloh’s streetwear label, off-white. The collection is varied offering tees, sweatshirts and blazers to sunglasses, sneakers and the classic monogram leather goods with a fresh look of neon details and PVC options. This collection includes; utilitarian jackets, loose-fit pants, shirts and blazers while ensuring the tailor element of LV still remains. Paying tribute to Virgil’s hometown of Rockford, Illinois a gun holster-inspired harness and utilitarian workwear elements are featured.
“Accessomorphosis,” a word from the vocabulary list distributed at the Louis Vuitton runway show, characterises the fusion and the interdependent relationship between ready-to-wear and leather goods. The Wapiti now pays tribute to the iconic LV monogrammed trunk with black trunk corners and matt black and neon orange chains. The 1:1 Millionaire sunglasses are also trunk-inspired with the hinge and an intricate golden pattern on the top bar.
Be sure to check out the successful collection which has out-sold Louis Vuitton X Supreme collaboration in 2017 and with a jewellery line announced following the success of the Abloh’s first collection for LV.
